Silence isn’t golden: how psychological safety is fundamental to high performing teams

Join us on Thursday May 30th at Glean’s stunning offices at Leeds Dock for an evening of networking and shared experiences as we bring the Software Engineering Leadership @ WRK series back to Leeds to delve into the incredibly important topic of psychological safety for high performing teams.

The aim of the meetup is to bring the immensely talented Software Engineering community together to support each other with meaningful connections and shared knowledge. Anyone with an interest in the events subject matter is welcome to join us on the night, please RSVP using the LinkedIn events page.

📣 Event Topic, ‘Silence isn’t golden: how psychological safety is fundamental to high performing teams’ facilitated by Clement Pickering, an expert coach and founder / director at Feltic Ltd.

Imagine a tech team that makes few mistakes and quietly gets on with its work. Sounds great right? As a leader it’s one less headache perhaps, one less thing to need to worry about.

But what if the lack of noise wasn’t actually a good sign? What if the lack of mistakes was actually because people were reluctant, or even afraid, to admit them? And the silence was a signal of people holding back, from asking questions, raising concerns or suggesting new ideas? Suddenly the picture is less rosy – we’re storing up the risk of more significant issues down the line, and worse, potentially wasting the potential for genuine high performance.

In this talk we’ll explore the concept of psychological safety and how it underpins all high performing teams. As a tech leader and coach who’s helped nurture positive people-focused culture across multiple organisations, Clem will share both some background and theory on psychological safety together with stories, experience and practical approaches to take away and experiment with. Through doing so, our aim is to help you as leaders foster an environment for your teams to excel, and to feel safe in speaking up rather than staying quiet.

Bio:
Clem is an independent coach and consultant focused on helping tech leaders have effective conversations and foster people-first culture. He combines a background in technology and consultancy with his ICF-accredited coaching practice to help organisations create the conditions for better communication, high-performing teams and inclusive, engaging company culture.

Clem brings experience based on a career starting in software engineering and from a wide range of leadership roles spanning dev, test, architecture, people operations and tech academies. He’s known for his empathetic and warm style and strongly believes that organisations that put humanity first are also the most successful.

We encourage experienced leaders to be part of the discussion and share their hints and tips on the evening.

Please RSVP using the LinkedIn event page or by emailing [email protected] if preferred.

The evening will start at 6pm with 30 minutes of socialising and introductions, followed by the session run by Clem before moving onto the Social at the Canary for those that want to continue the conversation.

🌮 Food and refreshments will be provided on the evening so please do RSVP on here.

A huge thank you to Glean for providing the space for this event to take place 🙌
