Hands on with mobile accessibility: process, gotchas, and exploding buses

Organised by Leeds Mobile

Where do you get started with mobile accessibility? Join us for an evening of discussion on accessibility standards and how to incorporate them effectively into your project, as well as an interactive workshop on accessibility support in React Native.

Bianca Darolti will be running a two-part workshop on mobile accessibility. She’ll start with a short talk, sharing her experiences, some tips and some gotchas.

After the talk, there will be an interactive accessibility puzzle hunt using Expo Go. Attendees will be able to find and resolve accessibility issues in a sample app built by Bianca. She and a few Softwire colleagues will be on hand to give guidance and discuss best practices.

You can also expect pizza and an entertaining bug story or two – particularly the tale of the strangest screen reader bug report we ever received, the exploding bus.

Please bring your mobile phone, and install the Expo Go app in advance of attending. A laptop will also be useful if you would like to participate in the programming segment, which is optional.
