LEEDS 2023 are excited to be working on a series of free workshops that aim to make creative software training more accessible to Leeds communities.
Audio Editing with Audacity
Hosted at the Garforth Community Hub & Library, the first workshop will be on the free but incredibly powerful audio editing software Audacity, which will enable you to record your own music, podcasts and loads of other content. The workshops will cover all the basics to enable you to feel equipped to explore Audacity further after the workshops.
Led by BBC Radio Leeds producer Dan Purvis, the workshop will talk you through all the basics of the software, from opening a project and adding sounds, to simple editing, adding effects and exporting your work to then be uploaded and shared to any platform you want. Dan will also signpost to other free resources to continue learning the software in your own time
Requirements
Bring a laptop
Attendees will need to bring a laptop. Audacity is a really simple program that does not need a powerful laptop, whether you have a 10-year-old laptop or brand new Mac, it will work on any system. If you’re using a work laptop make sure you have admin permissions to download and install software.
Downloading and installing software
A week before the event we will send out a link where you can download Audacity and a couple of small audio tracks that you will edit along with Dan. Please download them before the session if possible. If you are unable to download Audacity and the files, please come down to the workshop 15 minutes before the event starts and we will help you do so.
About the workshop series
Each workshop in the creative digital storytelling series will give you new ways to share your own stories and the stories of the people you work with using free and easy to use digital tools.
Video editing using DaVinci Resolve
Image editing using GoDaddy Studio and other tools
Livestream using OBS, Twitch, YouTube live and Restream
Who are the workshops for?
The workshops are for anyone who is new to digital design software, people that want to learn new skills for themselves or to share with the people and communities they work with, or anyone who wants to explore new ways to make digital content. These workshops will enable you to make artworks and create digital content for your organisation or businesses, and will give everyone taking part new skills to use as part of LEEDS 2023 year of culture. The workshops are open to anyone 15 years old and older.
The workshops will give you the skills for capturing and sharing the impact of your work and creating engaging content for your social media or website. The same skills could be brought into your creative events programming and used to help the people and communities you work with to record and share their stories and creative work, upskill them and teach them new skills. These free workshops will be breaking down the perceptions that digital software’s are difficult to use, expensive and inaccessible.
