The University of Leeds is proud to support the Leeds Digital Festival 2023.

The University of Leeds is one of the largest higher education institutions in the UK, with over 38,000 students from more than 150 different countries. We’re part of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities and are renowned globally for the quality of our research and teaching.

Our ten-year strategy sets a blueprint for a values-driven university. One that harnesses its expertise in research and education to help shape a better future for humanity, working through collaboration to tackle inequalities, achieve societal impact and drive change.

We want to provide a transformative, research-based educational experience for students from diverse backgrounds, who develop the knowledge and skills they need to succeed and make a positive impact in the world.

Our culture and environment will place us at the centre of a global research and innovation community, delivering transformational fundamental and challenge-led research to advance knowledge and tackle local, national, and global challenges.

We will work with our staff, students, alumni, partners, and our local and global community to harness digital technologies and digital approaches to enrich our activities, contribute to global challenges, and reduce inequalities.

The digital transformation strategy will also support the University’s activities, making more effective use of data, digital processes, digital systems and technologies and digital approaches to enhance and transform the way we work.

Digital Education at Leeds

Our vision is that all our learners engage with accessible and inclusive learning experiences, underpinned by innovative and intentional digital pedagogies and technologies. We strive to harness the power of digital education to transform lives, collaborating with our partners in an evidence-based, solutions-focused, and design-led approach.

The Digital Education Service works to embed digital meaningfully into the learning experience of our students through interactive and immersive technology, inspiring multimedia and video, and empowering digital tools and systems. We also have a rich portfolio of award-winning online courses, and our partners include the Goldman Sachs Foundation, the Institute of Coding, National Institute for Health Research, M&S, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Ufi, IBM and the BBC. Together with our academic Schools and Faculties, we enable a growing portfolio of fully online master’s programmes to meet the global demand for higher education, including the newly launched MSc Disability Studies, Rights and Inclusion and MSc Artificial Intelligence.

Our team consists of over 160 digital education professionals, designers, multimedia specialists, technologists, leaders, and innovators who empower our partners to create transformational digital learning experiences.

Introducing HELIX

The University is proud to announce the arrival of HELIX, a newly crafted space on campus dedicated to accelerating innovation in digital learning.

Designed to incubate creativity and innovation, HELIX offers access to leading extended reality (XR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies, cutting edge video production facilities, and an enterprise ideation and prototyping environment together with a classroom setup to provide multi-mode learning, connecting Leeds students with our worldwide community of learners.

We are thrilled to launch HELIX alongside Leeds Digital Festival and look forward to hosting events, tours, and demonstrations to celebrate all things digital across the city and beyond.

Research

Leeds is undertaking solutions-driven, challenge-led research with real-world impact, delivered through collaboration, partnership, and commercialisation. Digital technologies are critical to many areas of our research, this includes our Centre for Immersive Technologies and Leeds Institute for Data Analytics and through our partnership with The Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence.

Our education and research are a powerful combination so that each reinforces the other, harnessing our extraordinary breadth and depth and commitment to quality to produce truly exceptional results, all with an increasingly international focus.

And we never lose sight of our civic roots, with an enduring purpose and a sense of responsibility to the world around us, be that on our doorstep or the other side of the globe.
