Inside KPMG Curve: Insights from Jonny Grice

Hear from KPMG's Head of Cloud for the Public Sector and Head of the Curve Delivery Centre, Jonny Grice, on what KPMG Curve brings to the Leeds tech ecosystem.

KPMG Curve is KPMG UK’s newest tech venture based in Leeds, which launched at the start of September. We spoke to Jonny Grice, Head of Cloud for the Public Sector and Head of the Curve Delivery Centre, who is heading this up to find out more.

Tell us about KPMG Curve.

KPMG UK has created a Leeds-based digital delivery team to meet increasing demand for UK-based cloud services from our clients. Named KPMG Curve, it provides clients with access to digital engineering resource that they might not have in-house to help them with their technical challenges and digital transformations.

Leeds and the wider Yorkshire region has a thriving tech eco-system and is a hub for tech talent in the North of England. This will build on our regional heritage, our commitment to the local growth agenda, and our long-standing commitment to the Yorkshire region.

What is your role in KPMG Curve?

I’m the Head of Cloud for the public sector for KPMG and Head of the Curve Delivery Centre. A large part of Curve will be delivering Cloud, Software and Data solutions, including AI.

What was the purpose behind Curve?

We wanted to address the market need for high trust and high-quality solutions. Curve addresses this need by blending the digital talent of our Curve Engineers with our long-standing consulting expertise to deliver great client outcomes.

Why is it different and what excites you most about it?

KPMG is committed to a continuous learning culture, and we also want to apply that to KPMG Curve to develop UK tech talent. We want to retain and develop homegrown talent and value the importance of learning for a lifetime, throughout every stage of an engineer’s career, which is why we provide a yearly learning allowance, so they are supported to grow their career in the way they want to.

When this learning is combined with the opportunity to advise KPMG UK’s client base, this provides an exciting opportunity for engineers to build their careers.

What will this mean for clients?

We recognise that digital transformation can often be siloed, leading to inefficiencies, and missed opportunities. Where needed, Curve colleagues will work alongside our advisory peers, who have deep industry expertise. This way, clients will have both technology and sector expertise on the same team and deliver the same vision.

Also, to enable a smoother knowledge transfer following a digital transformation project, we are committed to upskilling our clients to ensure they are setup for success when we leave.

Tell us something we might not know about KPMG Curve?

The Curve team drive our purpose, mission, and vision rather than it coming from the top- down. This instils a culture of togetherness in the team and drives collaborative relationships with one another. We also have a sound system in our office, and as a member of Curve, you add your favourite songs (no matter how embarrassing) so we can all listen to each other’s diverse music preferences.
