Spotlight On: Will Smith & Peter Kirby

Will Smith and Peter Kirby – Co-founders of the UK's leading green neobank, Tred – dig into how wanting to help people to take control of their carbon footprint led to the (accidental) creation of their tech startup, and some of the challenges they faced along the way.

In the latest episode of our Spotlight Series we caught up with not one but two of Leeds’ brightest tech entrepreneurs – Co-founders of Tred, Will Smith and Peter Kirby.

Will and Pete dig into how wanting to help people to take control of their carbon footprint led to the (accidental) creation of their tech startup, and some of the challenges they faced along the way.

Now the UK’s leading green neobank, Tred has been helping its users to put the planet first when managing their money since 2019. Looking ahead to the next iteration of the product, they share their plans to develop an SME bank account so that they can help SME’s around the UK to measure and reduce their carbon footprint.

“What we’ve been working on for the past six or seven months is helping individuals reduce their carbon footprint, and the next opportunity for us is SME’s. Just like individuals, SME’s need help in measuring and reducing their carbon footprint. The tech we’ve build is applicable to them too, so watch this space, hopefully soon we’ll be launching an SME bank account.”
